Wu-men Huikai

1 quote

Ten thousand flowers in spring, the moon in autumn, a cool breeze in summer, snow in winter. If your mind isn't clouded by unnecessary things, this is the best season of your life.

Source: Wumenguan (無門關, The Gateless Barrier), Wumen Huikai, 1228 — verse to Case 19, 'Ordinary Mind Is the Way'

Genuine Wumen. The Chinese verse is 春有百花秋有月,夏有涼風冬有雪,若無閒事挂心頭,便是人間好時節 — Wumen's capping verse to the Nanquan koan in Case 19 of the Wumenguan. The English here is a loose modern rendering rather than a literal translation (this phrasing is generally Stephen Mitchell's), so the translator should be credited if the corpus tracks that. Attribution to Wumen is solid.
