Diane Arbus

I work from awkwardness. By that I mean I don't like to arrange things. If I stand in front of something, instead of arranging it, I arrange myself.

Genuine Arbus. This comes from her own words as collected in the posthumous Aperture monograph, largely transcribed from the master class she taught in 1971. The 'I arrange myself' formulation is distinctively hers and is quoted consistently in Arbus scholarship. Holding just at the bar because I cannot confirm the page.
